Biomaterials

The science on biomaterials gathers knowledges from medicine, biology, chemistry, tissue engineering and material sciences. Biomaterials are derived from other natural or artificial materials in laboratories, and have to fulfill certain characteristics, requirements and standards in order to integrate them into biomedical purposes ie. implant them into living organisms. Biomaterials have became indispensable in different medical applications, creating a structure that impoves, increases or replaces the natural function of a structure within an organism.
