BIOINFORMATICS

Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary area which applies computing and mathematics knowledge  for storage, processing and analyzing biological data. In the past two decades a sudden (exponentional) increase of the amount of publicly available biological data occured, primarily caused by the decrease of the sequencing technolgy cost. Together with the data boost, computational methods have been developed for their analysis. Consequently, the need for the bioinformatics experts has grown, especially in the last decade, which motivated introduction of interdisciplinary bioinformatics studies in leading universities world-wide.
